I don’t know where I’ve been, but apparently Nightwish (my favorite symphonic metal band) has gained a new lead vocalist, Floor Jansen.

Floor’s voice seems a good synthesis between the original singer, Tarja Turunen’s classical vocals, and the last lead, Annette Olzon more rock vocals. Viewing prior works of Jansen on youtube, I see she is classically trained and very capable-Altho, her tone is deeper than Tarja’s, and I can hear her reaching a bit. Nevertheless, she exhibits good control. Seems Nightwish has released a live album and blu-ray featuring Jansen-I will have to pick that up at some point.

Must say that seeing and listening to her is like falling in love with Nightwish for the third time. I’m still partial to Tarja, but appreciate the strengths of all three singers differing styles-And of how Tuomas and the rest of the band have incorporated the changes.

Of course I definitely can’t deny that Floor is (as are Tarja and Annette) just …gorgeous.
